in this piece about business practices or malpractices in nigeria, let me share the experience i had on a bus popularly called BRT-meaning bus rapid transport. Picture this, everyone was seated and the driver had started the engine about to move when a skinny pupil, Halima, steps in. Immediately the driver tells her to get out of the bus. She obeys. After the staff outside pleaded for her to be forgiven, she climbs in again only for the cycle to repeat itself-she got thrown out. Why? She failed to say Good morning sir! Hmmm.
In the Nigerian society, folks still care about kids greeting elders not just at home. Later that morning, an elderly lady inside the bus asked the ticketer at another bus stop to issue her a ticket. What did she get? Please mama, come down and get it jo! Huh? What disrespect! A woman old enough to be her mother. What have we become? Of course, her action got reprimands from folks on the bus.
Ok, the final scenario, happened on Another occasion- a red bus this time. A little background will help. Usually 2 buses owned by different companies wait for passengers at a bus stop called CMS-trust me that doesn't stand for Content management system! However one must get filled before the other to save time. But this evening was different. You won't believe that both staff were selling tickets at the same time on a weekend! Let me tell you what that means. It means fewer passengers filling up both buses at snail speed. Bottom line-they wasted our time.. Worse still they rendered no apologies for this gross misconduct. They put up impudent faces that said-do your worst we don't care!
My submission is this-to do good business in Nigeria and anywhere, you must treat the client right in fact all parties should be mutually appreciated. Think about it. Enjoy your day!
